Matching your car’s color after a collision

santa-ana-color-matching
When you need body work done it’s normally due to an accident.  Color matching can end up being an issue, and after an accident you don’t want or need another issue.  We find that many time we bring our red car to a body shop after an accident and what happens?  We get the car back with 2 different shades of Red!  Now that’s a problem in our eyes.
ICC Collison Centers knows paint preparation is a critical step in the refinishing process of every vehicle. Color matching can be one of the most challenging parts of that process.  That is why we have only the best technicians and paint specialist.  We carefully prepare all panels for paint.  They are primed and sealed to assure a good adhesion when the top & clear coats of paint are applied.
The paint of today really doesn’t fade much.  The clear-coat covered with air born contaminates causing the finish to look faded and dull.
Each manufacturer has its own color pallet. Each has their own color code there are variants, meaning there is shading differences from batch to batch between paint suppliers and this is still considered to be the same color.
Determining which variant is on a vehicle is done by rubbing with an abrasive paste and then polished to remove the air-born contaminants.  It is then scanned with a color matching camera that helps narrow down the color variant.
Once the variant is found a text mix is done and confirmed if it is a match or not.  Once the match is confirmed and the panel(s) are painted the real magic begins.  This magic is called blending and even the slightest things can have an effect on color matching humidity, temperature etc.  Most of which are out of the painters control.  The final stage means the color will be gradually “blended” into the surrounding panels.  When finished the human eye is not able to see any different from the surrounding finish.

Self Driving Cars: The Future of the Automotive Industry

LexusRX450hGoogleCar3-4Lfront

So I’m sure you have heard all the talk about driverless cars and also heard the views of those who are against the prospect of a computer being in control of the machines we love so much.

Are we really going to trust that artificial intelligence will get us where we need to go and do it in the safest manner possible? I can tell you that we are on the verge of that prospect being reality. But have you ever stopped to consider what life with driving might be like? Imagine for a minute what your morning commute might be like if you were able to actually do work on your way to the office. Instead of fighting traffic, what if you were able to start your workday before you get to the office?

Gone will be the days of road rage and morning collisions which only make your commute longer. Imagine sitting in your car office and getting actual work done. Sit back, relax, and let the car do the driving. Think about our cars communicating with each other and no longer will we need to give the car in front of us adequate breaking distance. Our cars will be able to run closely together in front and behind virtually eliminating traffic jams. The human element will be gone and we can let the computers do the talking. Family trips will actually be fun when the whole family can spend quality time together instead of Mom or Dad being stressed out of making the wrong turn or missing an exit. Soon we will just enter our destination, and the car will do the rest.  There is no doubt we are closer than ever to this being a reality.

In the meantime people will continue to get into car accidents, and when you do, ICC will be right there to fix the damage.

Car Insurance Laws & Regulations in California

The state of california is what they call a “Fault” Car Insurance State

California uses a “fault” method when it comes to car insurance as well as the kinds of solutions available after a motor vehicle accident. Basically, there are not many restrictions on the choices of anyone injured in an accident, when it comes to going after an insurance coverage claim or taking legal action against those who are legally at fault. Following a car accident in CA, if you have suffered a physical injury as a driver, passenger, or pedestrian, you are able to take one or more of the following steps in looking for ways to get reimbursed for your losses (doctor bills, lost earnings, damage to property and more
• file a claim using your own insurance policy
• carry on with the claim through the at-fault driver’s insurance provider, or
• file a PI lawsuit against the at-fault driver exclusively

Please Note: While living in a no-fault car insurance state, a driver that has been injured in a accident must rely on their own auto insurance company for payment of issues such as medical bills or lost income, regardless of exactly who was at fault for the accident. Remedies against the at-fault driver are super limited, but are possible if certain thresholds are met. California drivers do not need to worry about these no-fault rules.

Minimum Auto Insurance Requirements in the state of California

California law requires liability insurance coverage — at or more than minimum dollar amounts. This applies to and for any motor vehicle operating on the roads in this state. This insurance is meant to compensate other drivers/passengers for damage to property or personal injuries just in case an accident occurs. The minimum amounts of coverage required under California law are:

• $15,000 for injury / death to one person while driving a motor vehicle
• $30,000 for injury / death to multiple people, and
• $5,000 for property damage

Keep in mind, this is actually the bare min amt of liability coverage required under the laws of the state of California. You should always try to carry more coverage. A Simple justification to carry more coverage that that is required by law, is if you are at fault on an accident, your insurance will only cover you up to the maximum that is state on your policy. As soon as the limits of your policy are exhausted, you will be left personally responsible for paying the rest of the damages to the vehicle in question..

How to comply with the State of California’s“Financial Responsibility” Requirement

To meet California’s minimum insurance responsibilitys, the overwhelming majority of motorists in California will certainly purchase a car policy providing you with liability coverage equal to or in excess of the min needs. But California actually does allow vehicle owners to choose a couple of other approaches of adhering to the state’s financial responsibility laws and regulations. Rather than purchasing a qualified insurance plan, vehicle owners can:

  • Deposit cash in the amount of $35,000 with the CA DMV
  • Obtain a self-insurance certificate from the CA DMV, or
  • Obtain a $35,000 surety bond from an issuer that is licensed to do business in the state of California.

Uninsured/Underinsured Coverage is simply Not Required in California

California doesn’t require motorists to carry underinsured motorist coverage or uninsured motorist insurance, but it is a really great idea to understand more about these coverage options and the kinds of protection they offer.

What is the Difference Between a bumper to bumper and power train warranty?

autowarranty_icc

If you’re looking to purchase a car, you’ll find that many certified pre owned or new cars offer 2 major types of warranties: a powertrain warranty as well as a bumper-to-bumper warranty. Obviously, there are several other warranties, for instance a corrosion warranty; however these would be the 2 most significant simply because they cover by far the most components inside your car. What exactly makes bumper-to-bumper warranties and powertrain warranties so different? Below you will find almost everything you’ll want to know.

What’s Covered With a Powertrain Warranty?

This is a warranty on components of the car’s propulsion system, like the engine, transmission and other associated pieces including the differential. Powertrain warranties also often cover almost anything involved in bringing energy or power for the wheels.

It’s important to note that not everything in this new car is covered simply with a powertrain warranty. Some parts are thought to be “wear items,” meaning they are designed to wear down; therefore any type of warranty simply will not purchase their substitution. These include the clutch & the battery as well as certain drive belts & fluids.

What exactly is covered under a Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty?

A bumper-to-bumper warranty, aka comprehensive warranty, covers all things starting with the front bumper and ending with the back bumper, this excludes the bumpers themselves of course, that are considered body panels and are not covered. Extra coverage beyond the powertrain warranty includes items including the car’s electronics, its music system, its AC system, certain suspension pieces & more. Since bumper-to-bumper warranties cover far more than powertrain warranties, they often times do not last as long.

But try not to think any warranty covers everything simply because it advertises on its own as “bumper to bumper.” Many wear parts are excluded from the bumper-to-bumper warranty.

What is the Difference Really?

Essentially, a powertrain warranty was created to cover only the car’s powertrain, which is a car’s biggest & most expensive component. Meanwhile, the bumper-to-bumper warranty covers almost every thing such as the powertrain, the suspension, the electronics, & more. As a result, a bumper-to-bumper warranty is exactly what you’ll want more than anything, in the event your bumper-to-bumper warranty expires or your used car program only offers powertrain protection, you can be confident understanding the majority of your car’s costly systems will be covered by the powertrain warranty.

In the event that you have a traffic collision, regardless of which type of warranty you purchased, make sure to take your vehicle to a reputable body shop or collision center such as ICC Collision Centers
