End of Insurance as we know it?

Vehicle Prototype Image Banner Cropped 600px

Google recently rolled out a driverless car prototype (see video above)  that has successfully traveled more than 700,000 miles on the streets of California. We may be still further away from mass adoption; however, it spells out the future for us. In the not too distant future, the world will be driverless. As per article in LA Times article, several automakers will have fully autonomous cars on the road by 2020. By 2025, as many as 230,000 of these self-drivers could be sold each year around the world, and that number could swell to 11.8 million a decade later, according to IHS Automotive, an industry research firm.

Will this be the end of auto insurance? Who will we insure if there is no driver? May be insurance will be sold along with the car – like a “protection agreement” that we buy with appliances. That is the ultimate state of commoditization for insurance.

However, at the same time, the technology advances will offer an opportunity for personalization and product differentiation in other lines of businesses.

Throw Back Thursday.. A tribute to the oldies but the goodies..

Do you remember your first car? How about the first car you had to buy yourself? It seems we used to have much lower expectations for those first cars we purchase for our children.  As marketing increases, expectations arise.  Here is our tribute to some of the best “oldies but goodies”

Audi Allroad Shooting Brake Concept Hints the Next TT…………

This ice blue beauty is new hybrid two-door sports car, but it’s not what you think.

The Audi Allroad Shooting Brake Concept is more about sport than fuel savings. But more importantly, this car is a strong hint at what the next Audi TT will look like inside and out.

Designed to attract youthful active-lifestyle buys, this concept features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder engine making 292 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. The Allroad Shooting Brake also incorporates Audi’s e-tron technology that adds a pair of electric motors to boost total power for this little three-door to 408 hp and 479 lb-ft, which is a lot of power for a vehicle weighing just over 3,500 lbs. This all adds up to a claimed 0-60 mph time of just over 4.5 seconds with a total range of 509 miles.

Audi claims the car will be capable of driving 31 miles on pure electric power and achieves the equivalent of 130 mpg on the European test cycle.

Further proof than Audi actually telling us that this will be the basis of the next Audi TT, the Allroad Shooting Brake Concept is equipped with the technology packed 2015 TT interior debuted at CES earlier this month.
