Never flee the scene of an automobile accident

You may be looking at this after you’ve left the scene of a car crash. Did you take the proper steps right after the accident occured?
Here is a quick look at the seven things you should have done following your auto accident.
1. Stop. As soon as it’s safe to do so, stop your vehicle.
2. Do not Leave the Scene Early. Fleeing the scene of an accident is illegal and could call for both civil and criminal issues.
3. Call 911. You may be required to call the police just incase anyone has been injured, and it’s good to have an officer at the scene in any case.
4. Gather all the data and Information and Write it Down. Here’s what kind of information to preserve while the incident is still fresh in your mind, and in the minds of others.
5. Be Careful What You Say. Statements you make at the scene almost always do more harm than good. Follow these tips.
6. Don’t Make Any Agreements. Striking a deal with the other driver is almost always a bad idea. Here’s why.
7. Take Photos of the Scene. Pictures are the best way to preserve the accident scene and capture the extent of vehicle damage.
If you didn’t, take the time right now to do the things on this list that are still possible, such as writing down more facts or taking pictures of your car and other car(s) involved in your car accident. Once you have done as many of these things as you can, further protect yourself and your legal rights by taking the right steps After a Car Accident.

Involved in a Fender Bender?

Most people yearn for a certain vehicle for many years and it takes time to save up the money to finally buy your dream car. That car becomes your pride and joy, not just a ride to and from work. You become attached to its looks, the way it drives and the pride of owning it.
It can be very traumatic when that vehicle gets damaged, especially if it’s not your fault. Accidents can be very unsettling, not to mention the cost and time spent without your car.
Vehicle insurance is there to help financially protect drivers like you and give you peace of mind if your vehicle is damaged, stolen or someone is injured in an accident. Everyone knows the first thing you do is file a claim with the insurance company.
Should you file an Insurance claim?
If you just put a dent in your fender by hitting the garage, take a moment to evaluate whether it makes financial sense to file a claim. First off, no one is injured and the car can still be driven, so there is no real reason to file a claim right away. What if the damage is minimal and you have a large deductible to be paid out of your own pocket first before insurance will cover the loss? It might be wiser to just pay for the repairs yourself instead of potentially causing an increase in your insurance premiums for an at fault accident over the next 3 years by filing a claim.
Call ICC Collision Centers to get an estimate for the damage first. Once we get a chance to see the dent in person, we can give you a firm estimate to repair your car. If the damage is more than you are prepared to pay, we can help you file your insurance claim right in our office.
Most states require drivers to carry liability insurance as a minimum level of coverage. Another consideration before filing a claim is what type of insurance you have. In most cases, it’s going to be liability, collision, and/or comprehensive insurance. Collision insurance covers damage that results from the vehicle colliding with something else, such as the garage or any stationary object. Comprehensive coverage covers just about everything else, including a deer running into the vehicle, or damage from hail, a falling tree or vandals. If you don’t have coverage for collision, then there is no reason to file a claim since it will be denied.
As much as you may love your vehicle, it’s important to first focus on what really matters during an accident situation, and that’s preventing further property damage or injuries and getting everyone involved the help they need. Knowing when to file a claim to protect your own rights, means knowing exactly what your insurance covers. Be sure to read your coverage’s and update them each year.
When you are in doubt and bend your fender, call ICC Collision Centers at 888-894-4079 for an estimate. We’ll be glad to help you out.
