Matching your car’s color after a collision

santa-ana-color-matching
When you need body work done it’s normally due to an accident.  Color matching can end up being an issue, and after an accident you don’t want or need another issue.  We find that many time we bring our red car to a body shop after an accident and what happens?  We get the car back with 2 different shades of Red!  Now that’s a problem in our eyes.
ICC Collison Centers knows paint preparation is a critical step in the refinishing process of every vehicle. Color matching can be one of the most challenging parts of that process.  That is why we have only the best technicians and paint specialist.  We carefully prepare all panels for paint.  They are primed and sealed to assure a good adhesion when the top & clear coats of paint are applied.
The paint of today really doesn’t fade much.  The clear-coat covered with air born contaminates causing the finish to look faded and dull.
Each manufacturer has its own color pallet. Each has their own color code there are variants, meaning there is shading differences from batch to batch between paint suppliers and this is still considered to be the same color.
Determining which variant is on a vehicle is done by rubbing with an abrasive paste and then polished to remove the air-born contaminants.  It is then scanned with a color matching camera that helps narrow down the color variant.
Once the variant is found a text mix is done and confirmed if it is a match or not.  Once the match is confirmed and the panel(s) are painted the real magic begins.  This magic is called blending and even the slightest things can have an effect on color matching humidity, temperature etc.  Most of which are out of the painters control.  The final stage means the color will be gradually “blended” into the surrounding panels.  When finished the human eye is not able to see any different from the surrounding finish.

Self Driving Cars: The Future of the Automotive Industry

LexusRX450hGoogleCar3-4Lfront

So I’m sure you have heard all the talk about driverless cars and also heard the views of those who are against the prospect of a computer being in control of the machines we love so much.

Are we really going to trust that artificial intelligence will get us where we need to go and do it in the safest manner possible? I can tell you that we are on the verge of that prospect being reality. But have you ever stopped to consider what life with driving might be like? Imagine for a minute what your morning commute might be like if you were able to actually do work on your way to the office. Instead of fighting traffic, what if you were able to start your workday before you get to the office?

Gone will be the days of road rage and morning collisions which only make your commute longer. Imagine sitting in your car office and getting actual work done. Sit back, relax, and let the car do the driving. Think about our cars communicating with each other and no longer will we need to give the car in front of us adequate breaking distance. Our cars will be able to run closely together in front and behind virtually eliminating traffic jams. The human element will be gone and we can let the computers do the talking. Family trips will actually be fun when the whole family can spend quality time together instead of Mom or Dad being stressed out of making the wrong turn or missing an exit. Soon we will just enter our destination, and the car will do the rest.  There is no doubt we are closer than ever to this being a reality.

In the meantime people will continue to get into car accidents, and when you do, ICC will be right there to fix the damage.

What determines whether or not your car is a total loss after an accident?

shutterstock_73907023

Have you been involved in a car accident and unsure of how much damage was actually done to your vehicle?  Your insurance company will send an appraiser out to assess the damage for repairs but if the damage is great, you may have a totaled car on your hands.

What does a totaled car mean?

It means the damage is so severe; it will cost your insurance company more money to repair. Insurance companies aren’t going to spend more money than they have to so if your vehicle’s repairs cost more than 70% of the value of the vehicle, they will most likely total the car. Older cars are especially prone to being totaled in an accident as replacement parts can be difficult to find or worse yet, expensive. There are also other factors in totaling a car such as damage to the vehicles frame. The force of impact in an accident can do structural damage to a car and cause the frame to twist or buckle. Your insurance company may determine that structural damage to the frame is too great to repair and therefore the car is a “total” loss.

In these instances, it is important that you take your vehicle to an experienced and reputable collision center such as ICC Collision. We have years of experience in collision repair and we’ll work closely with your insurance company to make sure all repair are performed to put your vehicle back to factory specifications.

When you have your car taken to one of our collision centers, you can rest assured that we are on your side to make sure the insurance company can assess the damage and offer the best scenario to get you and your car back on the road as soon as possible.  If your car is totaled you will then be paid by your insurance company and you can then begin the search for your new ride.

If your car is not totaled, we will have our trained technicians working on getting you back in the driver’s seat and safely back on the road.  Contact ICC Collision Centers at one of our Four Locations in California and Arizona.

The Chevrolet Malibu is the first of a the of GM vehicles on the list.  The Malibu’s success in the Midsize Car category in 2 consecutive years stands out, given that the competition was tight ; the Malibu has consistently fought off the likes of the Camry (won in 2014), the Sonata (won in 2013), and the Accord. This is impressive given that the Malibu underwent a significant redesign for the 2013 model year.
